Homes for the Brave

655 Park Avenue
Bridgeport, CT 06604

Homes for the Brave provides safe housing, job training, and life skills coaching to homeless individuals, 94% of whom are veterans. Since opening in 2002, HFTB has served over 1000 homeless men and women through its three major programs: Homes for the Brave, Waldorf Permanent Supportive Housing, and Female Soldiers: Forgotten Heroes. In 2016, our partnerships with the Bridgeport YMCA and Exchange Club of Shelton enabled us to provide FREE fitness memberships to the men and women we serve. Week after week, our residents reported that physical exercise was paramount to achieving their mental and overall health goals. Just a few weeks ago the YMCA closed permanently, leaving our residents without an outlet to physical exercise through the winter. We are currently seeking alternative fitness programs that are accessible for the individuals we serve. However, the average gym membership is $25/month, a cost we do not have the budget to incur in light of a major loss in our 2017-2018 state funding. In addition to the remaining support we received from the Exchange Club, we still need $6000 to be able to provide fitness memberships to the veterans in our programs. This Giving Day, consider making a donation, which--TODAY ONLY--can help us earn extra cash prizes toward our goal! THANK YOU for helping the men and women who served our country improve their health and achieve their personal goals.
