River House Adult Day Center addresses the impact of aging on families in Fairfield County by providing comprehensive, supportive services in a compassionate, safe and engaging setting. As the only medical model adult day center in Greenwich, we offer a solution for aging adults who require daytime assistance but wish to remain in the comfort of their homes and their communities. At River House, we understand the challenges associated with caring for a loved one. No caregiver should have to attempt the caregiving process alone. As a direct result of the support that River House provides, our caregivers have reported a decrease in absenteeism from their places of employment and have remained engaged in their communities. Caregivers have peace of mind knowing that their loved one is being cared for in a stimulating environment, surrounded by their peers. River House is an affordable adult care option that is accessible to all. We seek to help anyone who could benefit from our services, regardless of their ability to pay. We are proud to say that no one is ever turned away from River House due to financial reasons.
The funds raised on Giving Day will help River House continue to provide its crucial services to the community. A person-centered Care Plan is created for everyone who attends River House, with the approval of their doctors and families. Health care and recreational activities are incorporated into stimulating days that are designed to meet the unique needs of each individual, as well as contribute to the goals generated from each person’s Care Plan. Giving Day funds will benefit both our Health and Therapeutic Recreation programs that are essential components to the care we provide. The Health Program includes, but is not limited to, the monitoring and administration of physician-prescribed medications and treatments; assistance with personal hygiene, bathing, and toileting; and the provision of nutritious meals. Our Therapeutic Recreation Program offers a vast array of activities such as art, music, and animal therapy; trips to local cultural organizations, parks, and beaches; games, therapeutic exercise, and discussion groups; and memory enhancement activities, such as our MasterMind Program, a mind enhancement course that uses fun and challenging activities to improve memory, verbal fluency, flexible thinking, attention, and communication. This program is especially beneficial to those who are in the early stages of dementia. With the donations raised on Giving Day, we will continue to make our programs more robust in order to meet the needs of the community.
