SoundWaters was founded 27 years ago with the mission to protect Long Island Sound through education and action. Since that time, we have served hundreds of thousands of students and adults to build a deeper interest and literacy in science for improved school achievement and to raise awareness about the dangers that threaten the health of the Sound. SoundWaters is headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut, as are our two Coastal Education Centers at Cove Island Park and Boccuzzi Park and home port for the schooner SoundWaters in Stamford Harbor. We are committed to educating students in Fairfield County, Connecticut along coastal Long Island Sound and its watershed. 2016 is SoundWaters most successful year to date educating more than 32,000 students of all ages from Connecticut and New York annually, including 10,000 from low-income communities, aboard the schooner, in schools and at our Coastal Education Centers. Each year, the schooner SoundWaters conducts 280 experiential education sails for schools and community groups and public sails throughout the region. SoundWaters: How Support from Giving Day Benefits our Programs and Services The generosity of friends and supporters through Giving Day enables our work, whether it is an education sail aboard the schooner SoundWaters, pre-K programs, summer camp scholarships for children, or STEM education at our Coastal Education Centers. No child or school will be excluded from our programs due to an inability to pay. Equity in educational opportunities and access for all to Long Island Sound are guiding principles at SoundWaters. Knowledge about, and access to, science enrichment and the wonders of Long Island Sound are far too limited already for so many in our region.
